New Delhi: Renowned lyricist Prasoon Joshi has been appointed as the Chairman of Prasar Bharati. This information was conveyed in a press release issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Notably, Prasoon Joshi is a well-known figure in the Indian film industry. He has left his indelible mark across diverse fields, ranging from cinema and the advertising world to literature. Many magnificent and memorable songs have flowed from Prasoon Joshi's pen.
Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw stated, "My heartfelt congratulations to Prasoon Joshi on his appointment as the Chairman of the Prasar Bharati Board. Prasoon Joshi is an exceptionally creative individual whose work in advertising, literature, art, and cinema has garnered global acclaim. Despite this, his heart continues to beat steadfastly for India."
Vaishnaw remarked that Joshi's words carry the fragrance of the country's soil. His vision offers a glimpse into the golden past of Indian culture. The Minister further wrote that under Prasoon Joshi's leadership, Prasar Bharati will discover new energy, a deeper sense of purpose, and a fresh creative voice. "My best wishes to him for a memorable and meaningful tenure."
Prior to this appointment, Joshi had been serving as the Chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), Mumbai, since August 2017. He contributed significantly to strengthening film certification processes.
Prasoon Joshi was born in Almora, Uttarakhand. Following his early education, he pursued studies in the fields of management and communication. Furthermore, Prasoon Joshi has penned numerous popular and evocative lyrics for Hindi films. He has written songs for movies such as *Taare Zameen Par*, *Rang De Basanti*, *Bhaag Milkha Bhaag*, *Fanaa*, *Hum Tum*, and *Black*. His lyrics reflect glimpses of sensitivity, patriotism, and social consciousness.
Prasar Bharati is India's autonomous public service broadcaster, established under the Prasar Bharati Act of 1990 and operational since 1997. It encompasses both All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan (DD). All India Radio ranks among the country's largest radio networks, while Doordarshan broadcasts news, educational, entertainment, and cultural programs at a national level. In recent years, as part of its digital expansion, Prasar Bharati has also launched the 'Waves' OTT platform.
