Mirror, Mirror on the Wall: Mysuru's Unique Fix to Stop Public Urination Goes Viral (X)

Mysuru: In an attempt to tackle open urination, the Mysuru administration of Karnataka has found a unique way, due to which people are thinking before urinating in the open and people are liking this idea.  The viral video, which is doing rounds on the internet, has now sparked debate on public hygiene, civic behaviour, and the lack of accessible toilets in cities.

What is there in the video?

In a unique initiative to curb the stench of open urination near Mysuru's walls, the City Corporation has installed mirrors near the wall opposite the Suburban Bus Stand in Mysuru.

This project involves installing shiny stainless steel sheets, which looks like mirrors, on an 80-meter-long wall directly opposite the rural bus stand.

Will there be LED lights?

These mirrors are designed so that people standing in front of the wall can clearly see not only their own reflection, but also others nearby; this will discourage people from urinating in the open. LED lights are also installed around these luminous panels, which automatically turn on in sync with the streetlights in the evening.

How are viewers reacting?

The viral video, which is doing rounds on the internet, has now sparked debate on public hygiene, civic behaviour, and the lack of accessible toilets in cities.

Many users are appreciating this idea and some are criticizing this mirror installation.

After the video went viral, a debate also erupted over the civic sense surrounding public urination.

Commenting on the video, a user on X said, "There's no need for selective development. People need civic sense. These unnecessary beautification ideas won't solve people's problems. It's unclear whether these glass dividers will last. Who knows?"

One user commented, "What about the solution from the movie '3 Idiots'?"

Another user said, "It'll get dirty in a few days, and then you'll lose sight of anything."

Other user even suggested, "If you're installing a camera here, you should also install a large screen so you can watch live."
