CNG Price Hike: IGL Raises Gas Rates By Rs 2 Per Kg In Delhi-NCR; Check City-Wise Rates (X)
New Delhi: Inflation has hit the people of Delhi-NCR once again. after petrol and diesel, compressed natural gas (CNG) prices were also raised by Rs 2 per kg on Friday, further straining the budget of ordinary people. Now, the price of CNG in Delhi has been raised from Rs 77.09 per kg to Rs 79.09 per kg, amid global energy market disruptions.
CNG will now cost Rs 2 more in the entire NCR region, including Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram. The increase in CNG prices will directly impact the cost of autos, cabs, and private vehicles, ultimately borne by the general public.
The new CNG prices in Delhi-NCR and surrounding cities are as follows:
India imports more than 50 per cent of its natural gas needs, and rising global demand and declining supply have led to sharp price increases. Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), which supplies CNG in Delhi-NCR, said it was unable to absorb the increased costs for long, so it had to pass some of the burden on to customers.
The development comes a day after the Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) had increased the price of CNG by Rs 2 to Rs 84 per kg in Mumbai, Thane, and surrounding areas. Following the Mumbai hike, it was speculated that IGL might also raise prices soon, which has now proven true.
Escalating tensions between the US and Iran and the disruption of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz have impacted the global energy market. Approximately 20 per cent of the world's crude oil and gas supply flows through this route. This crisis has led to a surge in international energy prices, impacting import-dependent countries like India.
However, the central government said that there is sufficient stock of petroleum products available in the country and the supply of domestic needs, especially cooking gas (LPG), remains stable at present.
