Kolkata: Following the BJP's landslide victory in West Bengal, preparations for the formation of a new government have intensified. The swearing-in ceremony will take place on May 9 at the Brigade Parade ground in Kolkata. According to reports, preparations for the grand event have already begun.
After the landslide victory in West Bengal, the BJP has started the process of selecting the leader of the legislative party. The BJP leadership has appointed Union Home Minister Amit Shah as Central Observer for the election of the Leader of the Legislative Party in West Bengal and Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has been appointed as the Central Co-observer in the state.
Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, who was a longtime associate of Mamata Banerjee, is considered the frontrunner in the race for the Chief Minister. He has strengthened his claim by defeating outgoing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the second time.
A crucial meeting with the newly elected MLAs has been scheduled for May 8 between 12 and 2 pm, where the legislative party leader will be elected and the Chief Minister's name will be officially announced. According to reports, Samik Bhattacharya will propose the Chief Minister's nomination.
Later, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will return to Delhi from West Bengal after the swearing-in ceremony on May 9.
The BJP has consistently made surprising decisions when selecting Chief Ministers in states, like Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi. Putting an end to all speculation, the BJP always put forward a name that no one had imagined. Now, following Amit Shah's visit, questions are being raised as to whether the BJP is planning a similar move in West Bengal.
In the West Bengal election results, the BJP won 207 out of 293 seats, while the TMC won only 80. The Congress and the Left also opened their accounts in these elections, winning two seats each. In the previous elections, both parties were reduced to zero.
