Kolkata: Following a crushing defeat in the West Bengal elections, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee held a meeting with the party's newly elected legislators. During this meeting, Mamata reiterated that she would not resign from her post and would instead register her protest within the Legislative Assembly.

What did Mamata Banerjee say?

According to sources, Mamata stated during the meeting, "I will not resign. Let them dismiss me. If the Central Government wishes, let it impose President's Rule." She asserted that her refusal to resign from the Chief Minister's post constitutes a form of protest. Abhishek Banerjee also endorsed this stance, describing it as her way of expressing dissent, as she believes that her electoral mandate was forcibly snatched away during the elections.

Mamata Banerjee instructed the party legislators to wear black attire on the first day of the Assembly session. "I wish to observe this as a 'Black Day.' We must remain strong. Those who have betrayed us will be expelled from the party. I have defeated them on moral grounds. I am now a free bird. We may have lost, but we will not cease fighting." She directed all victorious candidates to remain in their respective constituencies and to handle any situations involving violence.

What did Mamata Banerjee allege?

During the meeting, she once again alleged that the BJP had rigged the elections and indicated that she might approach the Supreme Court regarding this issue. Mamata also raised questions concerning the Election Commission. Mamata Banerjee, Chandrima Bhattacharya, and other leaders announced that they would resume their legal practice in the courts.

On the day of the new Chief Minister of Bengal's swearing-in ceremony, Rabindra Sangeet will be played at the Trinamool party office. She further stated that while they may have suffered some setbacks locally, Delhi remains their primary objective, and the entire 'INDIA' bloc will fight together.

It is worth noting that earlier, on Tuesday, Mamata Banerjee had held a press conference in which she declared her refusal to resign. She asserted, "We have not lost the election; rather, we have been defeated [by external forces]. The BJP secured this victory by manipulating the Election Commission."

Mamata added, "Had the BJP achieved victory by winning a fair election, I would have had no grievances; however, we have not lost. The BJP has stolen this victory." They removed 90 lakh names from the SIR. When we went to court, 32 lakh people were added back.
