New Delhi: On Sunday morning, heart-wrenching news came from Vivek Vihar, Delhi. The entire city was in deep sleep when flames started rising in a four-story residential building. Within no time the fire engulfed the entire building. Nine people lost their lives and 2 others were injured in this accident.

What happened suddenly in the dark of night?

It was around 4 o'clock in the morning. Suddenly a fire broke out on the second floor of the building. People were sleeping, before they could understand anything the fire started spreading upwards. Someone informed the fire department. About 14 fire brigade vehicles came running, but by then the fire had reached from the second floor to the third and fourth floors. After about two hours of hard work, the fire could be controlled at 6 am.

How many people were saved and how were they saved?

More than a dozen people were evacuated safely. Some people were saved through the balcony, the rescue team climbed up and brought them down. Those injured have been admitted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital where they are undergoing treatment.

Shahdara DCP Rajendra Prasad Meena said that as soon as the information was received at 4 in the morning, fire brigade and police teams were immediately dispatched. After extinguishing the fire, a search operation was conducted in the building and all the bodies were recovered. Further investigation is in the hands of the police.
