Weather Report: Rainfall brings relief from heat for Delhi-NCR; hailstorms at several places

New Delhi: The weather in the national capital, Delhi, and the NCR region saw a sudden change on Thursday. Strong winds brought some relief to residents from the intense heat. Several areas in Ghaziabad and Northeast Delhi witnessed heavy rainfall accompanied by hailstorms. Large hailstones were reported in Seelampur, Yamuna Vihar, and Ghaziabad.

What was the weather like in Delhi-NCR?

Across the NCR region—including Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad—strong winds have been blowing since the afternoon, amidst the movement of clouds across the sky. In its forecast, the Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted partly cloudy skies for April 30, with a possibility of drizzle and light rain during the evening hours.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), strong surface winds are expected to prevail across Delhi-NCR. During this period, wind speeds are anticipated to range between 40 and 45 kilometers per hour. In some localized areas, wind speeds could reach up to 50 kilometers per hour. In view of the changing weather conditions in Delhi, the Meteorological Department has issued an 'Orange Alert.'

Along with the shift in weather patterns, a decline in temperature is also being recorded across Delhi-NCR. While the maximum temperature in Delhi had soared to 42.3 degrees Celsius on Monday—marking the second-hottest day of April—it dropped to 39.2 degrees on Tuesday and fell further on Wednesday due to the rainfall.

Regarding today's weather (April 30, 2026), the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 39 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to remain around 25 degrees Celsius. However, temperatures recorded during the morning and evening hours are currently hovering around 32–33 degrees Celsius.

What is the IMD weather forecast?

According to the Meteorological Department's forecast, partly cloudy skies may persist on May 1 and 2 as well. During this period, the maximum temperature is projected to range between 40 and 41 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to stay between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, there remains a possibility of light rain accompanied by thunder and lightning on May 3. Wind speeds are expected to range between 35 and 40 kilometers per hour.

Why did the weather change?

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this change is being observed due to the influence of a Western Disturbance. It is because of this system that North India experienced light rainfall accompanied by cold winds yesterday as well. The IMD further states that thunderstorms and strong winds are likely in the Delhi-NCR region today. Light rain may occur in some areas.
