Kolkata: The RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case is once again in the headlines. Ratna Debnath, the victim's mother and now BJP MLA, has once again made serious allegations against Mamata Banerjee. She said that her fight will continue until her daughter gets justice. Ratna Debnath had earlier vowed during the assembly elections that she would not comb her hair until her daughter got justice. Now after becoming MLA, she has intensified her demand for justice.
Ratna Debnath had said during the election campaign that Mamata Banerjee, being the then chief minister and health minister, was her “biggest enemy”. Her allegation was that her daughter was working in the health department, but she could not get security. She had emotionally said that she would not comb her hair until her daughter got justice.
The victim's parents have filed a new application in the Sealdah court. In this, a demand has been made for the arrest of former MLA Nirmal Ghosh and Somnath Das and TMC official Sanjeev Mukhopadhyay. The family alleges that these people played a role in hastily conducting the last rites and influencing the case.
It has been said in the petition that the body was taken away from the medical college in a hurry and the necessary documents were not given to the family on time. The family alleged that an attempt was made to influence the second post-mortem process as well.
After the RG tax scandal, Ratna Debnath remained continuously active in movements and protests. Later BJP made her its candidate from Panihati seat. She won the election by defeating the TMC candidate by a huge margin.
Ratna Debnath said that after becoming MLA, when she reached Nabanna to attend the meeting of newly elected MLAs, she remembered the movement of last year when there was a police lathi charge. She said that he had been stopped that time, but this time the policemen wanted to get photographs clicked with her.
RG Kar Medical College issue has become a big issue in the politics of West Bengal. Questions have been continuously raised regarding women's safety, the justice system, and the role of the government. Political analysts believe that this case also affected the election environment.
