Chennai: There has been considerable confusion over the release of the film 'Karuppu' for the past few days. Now The makers have finally announced that the Surya and Trisha Krishnan starrer has released in the theaters on Friday, which was originally scheduled for release on May 14, but the last-minute complications forced its release to be postponed. 

What did the makers say?

The production company, Dream Warrior Pictures, shared a lengthy post on social media, apologizing to the audience, stating that, "There are some journeys that test not just time, but the heart itself. To every person who waited for Karuppu who kept asking about the film, who never stopped believing in us even through the silence and delays, we owe you an apology, and more importantly, our deepest gratitude. We know this wait was painful. We know many of you held onto this film with so much love and expectation. Every delay weighed heavily on us too. But through every setback, it was your support, your messages, your faith, and your endless love that kept this dream alive. Today, with full hearts and tears of gratitude, we finally say: Karuppu is releasing worldwide!."

The makers stated that the love and support of fans kept them going through difficult times, and now the film has finally been released in theaters worldwide. 

What is the reason of delay?

Previously, there were reports that the action-drama film will release in theaters on May 14, 2026. According to reports, due to financial and technical difficulties, the film's release date was postponed to May 15.

Earlier, director RJ Balaji was disappointed by the delay and shared an emotional video on social media, expressing hope for a speedy release.

How did the makers surprise fans?

On the first day, first show of the film, director RJ Balaji, actress Trisha Krishnan, and actor Karthi joined the celebration in Chennai. In the viral videos, the makers can be seen welcomed by drums, fireworks and confetti. 

Later in the video, RJ Balaji can be seen thanking fans for standing by during the release struggle.  

What about the Special Thanks section for Vijay?

The filmmakers reportedly made a special gesture to honour the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Vijay was thanked in the film’s “Special Thanks” section at the beginning, where he was specifically referred to as “Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay.”

What did Surya say?

Surya also shared a new poster for the film, expressing his heartfelt gratitude to his fans. He wrote, "All your love and support means a lot to us. Thank you for sticking with us." 

For the past few days, there have been numerous discussions surrounding the film's release. There were reports that the film was facing financial difficulties, leading to cancellations at some locations. These reports had left fans quite upset. However, now the makers and star cast are very happy about its release. 

What about the cast?

Directed by RJ Balaji, 'Karuppu' marks the reunion of Suriya and Trisha Krishnan after a long time. Previously, they appeared in the 2005 film 'Aaru'. The film also stars Yogi Babu, Indrans, Sivada, Swasika, Natty, Supreet Reddy, and Anagha Maya Ravi in ​​pivotal roles. 

Notably, director RJ Balaji himself plays a negative role. The film's story revolves around the struggles of a father and daughter as they fight for justice. During this time, Suriya's character, Saravanan, enters the story.
