Guwahati: Tuesday was a special day in Assam. Himanta Biswa Sarma once again took an oath as chief minister. He became the first non-Congress leader of Assam to become CM for two consecutive terms. Prafulla Kumar Mahanta had also been CM twice but his tenure was interrupted midway.
Big personalities of the country gathered in this ceremony in Guwahati. Many Union Ministers including PM Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and Nirmala Sitharaman arrived. Chief ministers and deputy chief ministers of 22 NDA-ruled states also attend this ceremony. Industrialists, religious leaders and ambassadors of some countries also come. .
Along with Sarma, some other leaders also took oath as ministers. Arun Bora, Charan Boro, Rameshwar Teli and Ajanta Neog took oaths as ministers.

Atul Bora is the president of Assam Gana Parishad (AGP), while Rani Narah Boro is the BPF MLA. Both these leaders have also been ministers in the previous state government. Apart from this, Ajanta Neog had also taken responsibility as a minister in the previous government. Rameshwar Teli has been a former Union Minister of State and now before the 2026 assembly elections, he has made an active comeback in Assam politics.
This is the third consecutive NDA government in Assam. BJP, Assam Gana Parishad and Bodoland People's Front are running the government together. The NDA first came to power in 2016 when Sarbananda Sonowal became the CM.
This time BJP contested the elections keeping identity and development at the forefront. Sarma said that there will be no compromise with the land and identity of Assam. He claims that one and a half lakh bighas of land have been freed from encroachment and a target of five lakh bighas has been set.
Sarma says that this time the biggest focus will be on the youth. 10 lakh youth will be given money to start their own work. Besides, a promise has also been made to gradually increase the salary of tea garden workers to Rs 500.
