NEET UG To Shift To Computer-Based Test Mode From Next Year, Says Govt

New Delhi: Regarding NEET-UG 2026 re-exam, the Central Government has taken many decisions that provide great relief to the students. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan clearly said that the government's priority now is not just to conduct examinations but to win back the trust of lakhs of students. In view of the fear, anger and uncertainty spread among students and parents after the paper leak controversy, the government has announced several major changes in the examination process. Preparations have also been started to conduct the NEET-UG exam in online, i.e., computer-based test (CBT) mode from next year.

Will the entire pattern of NEET change next year?

The Education Minister has indicated that from NEET-UG 2027, the examination can be conducted in computer-based test mode instead of OMR sheet. The government believes that online examinations will reduce the chances of paper leaks and rigging. For this, work has been started on strengthening the technical infrastructure and examination centers.

What relief will students get in re-exam?

This time the government has taken many decisions keeping in mind the practical problems of the students. Students who have returned to their homes from coaching cities will again get a chance to choose the examination city of their choice. A special window of one week will be opened for this.

When will the admit cards be released?

NTA has stated that admit cards will be issued by June 14 based on the new examination cities chosen by the students. This will make it easier for students to plan their travel and stay.

Has the timing of the exam also been changed?

To reduce the mental pressure of students, it has been decided to give additional time of 15 minutes in the examination. Now the exam will run from 2 pm to 5:15 pm. The government says that with extra time, students will be able to read the question paper without haste.

What preparations is the government making regarding the journey?

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the central government is in talks with the state governments to reduce the financial burden on students. If needed, special transport arrangements like buses and trains can also be made so that students can easily reach the examination centre.

What will be the arrangements regarding heat and rain?

Considering the examination to be held in June, the weather is also considered a big challenge. The government has said that backup plans are being prepared to deal with heat and rain at the examination centers. Additional facilities and alternative arrangements will also be made available if needed.

Has the government accepted the shortcomings of NTA?

Dharmendra Pradhan admitted that some weaknesses have emerged in the NTA system, which need to be improved. However, he also said that the government is now taking strict action against the examination mafias under the 'zero tolerance' policy and the interest of the students will be kept supreme.
