Bihar: Shravan Kumar Elected As JDU Legislature Party Leader

An official notification has been issued by the Assembly. Nitish Kumar was authorized to make the final decision at a meeting of JDU legislators.

Bihar: Shravan Kumar elected as JDU legislature party leader (X)

Patna: Shravan Kumar has been elected leader of the Janata Dal (United) legislative party in the Bihar. The JDU has submitted his name as leader in the Assembly. An official notification has been issued by the Assembly. Nitish Kumar was authorized to make the final decision at a meeting of JDU legislators. 

When was the notification issued by the Assembly?

The Assembly has issued a notification confirming his selection as leader of the Janata Dal (United) legislative party. Shravan Kumar belongs to Nitish Kumar's caste and comes from the same home district. Senior JDU leader and former minister Shravan Kumar has won the 2025 election from Bihar's Nalanda assembly constituency for the eighth consecutive time.

According to reports, Shravan Kumar was also in the news for Deputy Chief Minister's post. In his place, Vijendra Yadav and Vijay Kumar Chaudhary were appointed Deputy Chief Ministers by the party. 

Who is Shravan Kumar?

Shravan Kumar has won elections from the Nalanda assembly constituency several times in a row. He has also served as a minister in the Bihar government, specifically holding portfolios in rural development, parliamentary affairs, and other departments. 

He established his identity through his organizational work and later established a strong foothold in state politics by winning the assembly elections. He is considered to have a strong hold in the Nalanda region.

Who made the decision?

At the Janata Dal United (JDU) legislative party meeting on Monday, the party's national president and former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was unanimously given the responsibility of choosing the leader. 

Nitish Kumar also addressed the legislative party meeting. Later, the party's Legislative Council member and chief spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said, "Our supreme leader has said that he will spend most of his time in Bihar, except during the Parliament session (when his presence in Delhi is required)." 

He also said that Nitish Kumar emphasised  that the development work started during his tenure should continue in the new government, in which JDU is an important partner. He will visit the state when the time comes to monitor these works.
