New Delhi: Amidst the increasing demand for hybrid vehicles in the Indian auto market, Kia is also taking steps in this direction. The company is preparing to launch two new hybrid cars in India this year. These will include a large SUV and a premium MPV. It is believed that with this the company wants to further strengthen its portfolio, especially at a time when customers are increasingly moving towards better mileage and less expensive vehicles.
According to sources, Kia can bring its global SUV Sorento to India with hybrid technology. This model is already present in the international market and now it is being designed according to the Indian customers. Apart from this, there is also talk of bringing a hybrid version of Carnival MPV, which can strengthen the company's hold in the premium segment.
A hybrid system uses an electric motor along with a petrol engine. Its direct advantage is that the vehicle can cover more distance with less fuel. At slow speeds in the city, it can also run only in electric mode for some time, thereby reducing both expenses and emissions.
The infrastructure for fully electric vehicles in India is not that strong yet. In such a situation, hybrid cars are emerging as a middle path. Neither the worry of charging nor the high fuel cost, this is the reason why many companies are focusing on this segment and Kia has also joined the same race.
The official date has not been revealed by the company yet, but it is believed that these models can be launched during 2026. There has also been talk of testing in some reports, which clearly shows that preparations are in the final stages.
If these models are launched, they will be in direct competition with the hybrid vehicles of Toyota and other companies, which already have a strong hold in this segment. The competition could be interesting especially in the premium SUV and MPV segments.
Overall, this plan of Kia is not limited to just bringing new models, but it seems to be a part of the company's long strategy, in which emphasis will be placed on increasing the share of hybrid and electric vehicles in the coming times.
