SIT Formed to Probe Murder of Suvendu Adhikari’s Aide, IG-Rank Officer to Lead Investigation

Kolkata: A major incident took place in Bengal on Wednesday night. Chandranath Rath, personal assistant of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, was shot dead by unknown assailants. As soon as this news spread, there was a political stir in the entire state and the BJP immediately created an uproar by calling it a big political conspiracy.

Chandranath Rath was returning home from Kolkata at around 10.30 pm on Wednesday night. He was passing through Madhyamgram area of ​​North 24 Parganas when a car coming from behind stopped his Scorpio. As soon as the vehicle stopped, the attackers riding a bike came and opened fire from the left side. Rath was hit by several bullets and was immediately taken to the hospital but it was too late. Doctors declared him dead. The driver sitting with him was also injured by the bullet and his treatment is still going on.

Seeing the seriousness of the incident, the police immediately started investigation and a special investigation team, i.e., SIT, has been formed. According to police officials, this SIT will be headed by a senior IG-rank officer and experienced policemen from different districts and special units have been included in it. According to police sources, many suspects have been detained, but the main attackers are said to be still absconding. Three local miscreants are also being interrogated whether they helped the attackers.
