Delhi Enforces Heatwave Plan: Outdoor Work Banned 12-3 PM, Hospitals Set Up Cool Rooms (X)
New Delhi: In view of the continuously increasing heat and threat of heat wave in the capital, the Delhi government has intensified preparations for 'Heat Wave Action Plan 2026'. Reviewing the situation, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has given clear instructions to all the departments that this time there should be no loophole in the system. Special attention has been given to school children, workers working at construction sites and sensitive areas.
The chief minister said that this time the strategy has been prepared in a more systematic and scientific manner than before. Responsibilities have been distributed among different departments so that there is no pressure at any one place and monitoring is maintained at every level.
The government has instructed schools to take necessary steps to protect children from the heat. If necessary, arrangements will be made to send children ORS solution before leaving so that the risk of dehydration on the way can be reduced.
Special arrangements have been made for the workers working at construction sites. They will be provided with drinking water, caps and mats to protect themselves from the sun. Also, instructions have been given to ban outdoor work between 12 noon and 3 pm.
The government has made it clear that despite increasing demand there should be no power cuts. It is estimated that this time the peak demand may cross 9,000 MW. In such a situation, power companies have been asked to make preparations in advance.
To provide relief from the heat, under 'Cool Roof Policy 2026', special coating is being done on the roofs of some government buildings so that the inside temperature remains low. Such work has already been done at Kashmiri Gate bus stand.
The government has put health centers in all the districts on alert. 'Cool rooms' have been prepared in more than 300 health centers and 30 hospitals, where heat stroke patients can be treated immediately.
The chief minister has instructed the departments to make arrangements for water and shade at various places in the city so that animals and birds can also get relief in the summer.
This time the government seems to be more cautious about the heat than before. The focus is clear—to protect people from heat waves and to keep essential services running without interruption.
