New Delhi: The ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 is set to commence next month, and the hosts—England and New Zealand—recently announced their squads for the tournament. Meanwhile, the third team participating in the tournament has now been revealed: the Indian cricket team. Specifically, the BCCI announced the Indian women's cricket squad for the T20 World Cup on May 2. The Indian team made history last year by winning the ODI World Cup title for the very first time. Now, Team India has set its sights on clinching its maiden T20 World Cup title.
A selection committee meeting held at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai saw the selection of 15 Indian players for the tournament. Just as in the previous edition, Harmanpreet Kaur has once again been entrusted with the captaincy of the team. Smriti Mandhana has been appointed as the vice-captain. In the batting lineup, the captain will be supported by key players such as Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Richa Ghosh—alongside Mandhana—while the responsibility for the bowling attack will rest on the shoulders of Deepti Sharma and Renuka Singh.
Nandini Sharma has earned a spot in the squad for the first time. The 24-year-old fast bowler from Chandigarh finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker in her very first season of the Women's Premier League (WPL). She claimed 17 wickets while playing for the Delhi Capitals during the WPL 2026 season. The squad also marks the return of wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia and all-rounder Radha Yadav, while Anushka Sharma, Uma Chetry, and Kashvee Gautam have been left out of the team.
This same squad will also compete in the three-match T20I series scheduled to take place prior to the T20 World Cup. Before departing for England for the World Cup, the Indian team will assemble for a training camp, where they are scheduled to play a three-match T20I series and a single Test match. The solitary Test match will be hosted at Lord's, and the squad for that fixture has also been announced.
The ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 is set to commence on June 12, with the final match scheduled for July 5. The tournament will be hosted in England and Wales, featuring a total of 12 participating teams, which have been divided into two groups. The Indian team has been placed in Group A alongside Australia, South Africa, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands.
Team India will kick off its campaign on June 14 against Pakistan. Following this, Team India will face the Netherlands in its second match. In the third match, Team India will take on South Africa. Meanwhile, in the fourth match, the Indian team will be seen locking horns with Bangladesh. In their final group-stage match, India will face the formidable Australian side.
