Mumbai: The firing incident at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner also sparked debate in Indian politics. Senior Maharashtra Congress leader and five-time MLA Vijay Wadettiwar fiercely targeted US President Donald Trump over this incident. He said that considering the way Trump is running the government and the way his policies are working across the world, it is not surprising that such an incident would happen.

What allegations did Wadettiwar make against Trump?

The Congress leader said without any hesitation that Trump tried to establish his dominance at the global level and left no stone unturned in destabilizing other countries. According to him, when a leader adopts such aggressive policies, its consequences are bound to emerge one day or the other. He said, "Fill as you wish." The expectations that Trump had were not fulfilled and the result came to light.

Why was India linked to this incident?

Here Wadettiwar's statement became more complicated. He said that even in India the mood of the people is no different. Although he did not directly name any leader or post, the hint was clear. He said that since people here have not yet taken to the streets, there is an illusion that everything is fine. But from within people feel that the country has suffered a loss. That is, according to him, silence does not mean satisfaction.

Did he justify the firing?

Wadettiwar clearly said that this incident in itself was unfortunate and this should not have happened to any person holding such a high position. But he added that public reaction is often a mirror of leadership style. That is, he condemned the incident and also blamed Trump's policies as the reason for it.

What is the political meaning of this statement?

This statement of Wadettiwar is not just a comment on Trump. By mentioning India, he has tried to give a message in domestic politics also. The opposition has been saying for a long time that there is dissatisfaction in the country but it is not visible. Wadettiwar has raised the same point again by linking it to an international incident.
