New Delhi. The leadership change in the BJP is almost complete. There are indications that the appointment of Nitin Nabin as the National President of the BJP may be announced by January 20. The ongoing preparations within the party and indications related to nomination clearly show that Nabin's coronation is considered almost certain. If everything goes as per schedule, he will formally sit as president by January 20.

Who is Nitin Nabin, and why were bets placed on him?

Nitin Nabin is an MLA from Patna, Bihar, and is counted among the rising young faces of the BJP. He has been given this responsibility because he has been active in the organization for a long time and is among the trusted faces of the leadership. By his selection, the party has clearly indicated that in the coming times, BJP will work seriously on taking youth leadership forward. The special thing is that he is taking command at a time when many big elections are to be held in the country's politics between 2026 and 2029.

What is the support of veterans in nomination?

Organizational elections have been completed in more than half of the BJP-ruled states. The presidents of these states will file nominations as a set, in which Nitin Nabin will be proposed as the candidate. The second set will be filed by the members of the BJP National Council. Sources reveal that the nomination papers will also be signed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, which strengthens Nabin's claim.

Is it just a choice or also a strategic message?

Nitin Nabin's selection goes beyond a simple organizational change. This is also being considered a part of the BJP's political message. The party is making long-range preparations for the next Lok Sabha elections (2029), and efforts will be made to reenergize the organization in the states through the new leadership. This appointment is considered final only with the approval of the top BJP leadership—Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

When is the ceremony of taking over?

Sources reveal that state BJP presidents will be called to Delhi after January 15, and Nitin Nabin will be officially handed over the charge between January 18 & 20 amid meetings and paperwork at the central office. This process will look like an election, but it would be more correct to call it a formal consent-based takeover, as no other name is claimed.

How important will his tenure be and why?

The tenure of Nitin Nabin is considered to be fixed from January 2026 to January 2029. However, with Lok Sabha elections due in 2029, the tenure can be extended further if needed.
This time is going to be very important for the BJP –

  • Assembly elections in many states
  • Political strategy of the opposition alliance
  • To re-strengthen the organization down to the booth level.
  • Preparations for 2029

The role of the new president will be decisive on all this.

Is this the beginning of a new phase for the BJP?

The arrival of Nitin Nabin sends a message that the BJP is gradually taking the generational change forward. The party once again wants to return to a situation where organizations from the center to the state level work in strong coordination. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see whether he lives up to the expectations of the party and whether the BJP's policies will move forward in a new style under his leadership.
