Washington: US President Donald Trump has once again shown a tough stance regarding Venezuela. He has clearly said that if the interim government does not follow Washington's terms, America will not step back from "second wave" military action. Trump says that America is currently controlling the situation, but if necessary, action will be taken again.
Trump also said in the statement that the answer to the question of whose hands are in control of the situation in Venezuela at this time may be “controversial.” He hinted that the US is controlling the situation on the ground and its aim is to "fix" Venezuela and not to look for any electoral gains.
Trump said that America was fully prepared for the second action, but for the time being it has been stopped. He also admitted that an American helicopter was damaged during the operation, although all soldiers were evacuated safely. According to him, no one died, and the condition of the injured soldiers is fine.
Trump blamed years of mismanagement for Venezuela's current condition. He said that the country's oil production capacity has fallen very low. The US wants full access to Venezuela's oil and other natural resources. Trump claims that American oil companies are ready to invest and can rebuild the infrastructure.
According to reports, the US has maintained a large military presence in the Caribbean region. Trump claimed that there was a conversation between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and interim President Delsey Rodriguez. According to Trump, Rodriguez has assured cooperation, although he has publicly condemned Maduro's arrest.
Senior government and army officials in Caracas have demanded Maduro's return but have also expressed support for Rodriguez for now. The Defense Minister appealed to the people to return to normal life and also accused America of attacking. Maduro's son signaled supporters to take to the streets, while an opposition leader called it an important but incomplete step.
Many countries, including Spain, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Uruguay, have described the US move as dangerous for regional security. European countries have also appealed for restraint. Seeing the situation, people in Caracas have started collecting essential goods, while Colombia has deployed additional soldiers on the border.
