Tel Aviv: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu underwent treatment for early-stage prostate cancer 18 months ago but did not make this public. He cited the need to preempt propaganda from Iran as the primary reason for keeping it concealed. The 76-year-old leader shared this information in a post on the social media platform X.
He stated that he is in excellent physical condition and that the issue has been completely resolved following the treatment. Two months ago, he decided to delay the release of the medical report to ensure that this news would not surface at the height of the war, thereby preventing the Iranian regime from exploiting the situation to disseminate false propaganda against Israel.
According to Netanyahu, his doctors detected and treated the cancer two years ago. More recently—just two months ago—a small tumor was discovered at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem, which was successfully treated using radiation therapy. Aharon Popovtzer, Director of the hospital's Oncology Department, stated that based on diagnostic reports, the disease has now been completely eradicated. In his post, Netanyahu shared three key points: that he is healthy by the grace of God, that his physical fitness is excellent, and that the medical issue has been fully resolved.
Benjamin Netanyahu described the treatment as a complete resolution of the issue that left no lingering traces. While contending with false propaganda linked to Iran during the war, Netanyahu had previously taken steps to clarify his condition. During the initial weeks of the conflict, rumors regarding Netanyahu's death were circulated, utilizing AI-generated fake images. To refute these claims, he released a video in March showing himself visiting a café in Jerusalem. Even prior to this incident, Netanyahu had faced criticism for not fully disclosing details regarding his health. On one occasion, after fainting due to a cardiac issue, he waited a full week before disclosing that he had received a pacemaker implant.
Netanyahu is Israel's longest-serving Prime Minister. His announcement has reignited the debate surrounding health transparency. He clarified that he took this step to safeguard national security during the war and to deny the enemy any opportunity. Now, following his treatment, he is completely healthy and active. This incident exemplifies Netanyahu's strong willpower and strategic thinking—qualities that prioritize the country's security above his own personal health.
