Dhaka: The results of the West Bengal Assembly elections are scheduled to be announced on May 4. In the run-up to this, a controversy has been created stretching from West Bengal all the way to Bangladesh. Recently, a Bangladeshi Member of Parliament (MP) expressed concern regarding the West Bengal Election results, stating that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes to power on May 4, it would create a dire situation for Bangladesh, as the BJP would push hundreds of people across the border. The MP warned that this could trigger a refugee crisis within Bangladesh.

Akhtar Hussain, the Parliamentary Secretary of the National Citizen Party, made this statement in the country's parliament. He asserted that immediately following a BJP victory in Bengal, illegal migrants would be sent back towards Bangladesh—a prospect that constitutes a matter of concern for the nation. Hussain stated, "Exit polls for West Bengal show the BJP emerging victorious; if the BJP forms the government there, they will push all Bangladeshis across to this side. This would precipitate a major refugee crisis for us. We are deeply concerned about this."

Were Concerns Raised Regarding Muslims?

The MP further added, "The BJP will unleash a flood of migrants upon Bangladesh. There is no guarantee that Muslims will not be sent back from our neighboring country. We must remain united." It is worth noting that the issue of illegal migrants was a pivotal theme in the Bengal elections, and the BJP has pledged to systematically identify and expel infiltrators from the country.

Did Nishikant Dubey Share Video?

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey shared the video clip of the Bangladeshi MP. Posting the video on the social media platform 'X' (formerly Twitter), he took aim at the Trinamool Congress. Nishikant Dubey wrote, "Bangladeshi MP Akhtar Hussain stated in the Bangladeshi Parliament today that a BJP victory in West Bengal would halt infiltration and lead to the expulsion of Bangladeshi Muslims—a prospect he deemed 'dangerous.' The enablers of the Trinamool Congress are gradually revealing themselves."

Do Exit Polls Indicate BJP Victory?

Meanwhile, ahead of the official election results in Bengal, exit poll figures have emerged suggesting a likely victory for the BJP. According to data from 'Poll Diary', the BJP could come to power in West Bengal for the first time, securing between 142 and 171 seats. If the figures from this survey are to be believed, the TMC may have to settle for just 99 to 127 seats. Meanwhile, the 'Matrize' exit poll suggests that the BJP could form the government in West Bengal with 146 to 161 seats, while the TMC might secure 125 to 140 seats, potentially leading to its ouster from power.

However, some polls also predict a victory for Mamata Banerjee's TMC. A survey by 'P-MARQ' states that while the BJP could win 150 to 175 seats in West Bengal, the TMC is projected to secure 118 to 138 seats. According to the 'People's Pulse' survey, the Trinamool Congress could retain power by winning 177 to 187 seats, whereas the BJP is projected to secure 95 to 110 seats. The Congress party is projected to win between one and three seats. Furthermore, according to the 'Janmat Polls' exit poll, the Trinamool Congress could secure 195 to 205 seats, while the BJP may have to settle for just 80 to 90 seats.
