Kolkata: After the historic win in West Bengal, BJP is all set to form government in the state after securing majority in the election. According to Election Commission of India, BJP has secured 204 seats out of 294 seats and is leading on two more seats. As per media reports, the swearing-in of the chief minister may take place on May 9 .

When will the party take oath?

After a historic performance in the 2026 Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party is now preparing to form a government.

According to ANI reports, the swearing-in ceremony of the new government in West Bengal will be held on May 9. According to the Bengali calendar, this day is considered auspicious, "Baishakh 25."

"The oath-taking ceremony of the new Chief Minister of West Bengal will take place on 9th May, said BJP State President Samik Bhattacharya," according to ANI reports.

What is the reason behind choosing this date?

The swearing-in ceremony of the next Chief Minister of West Bengal will take place on May 9, marking the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore.

Sources said that this date could be chosen to project a strong cultural resonance, highlighting a message rooted in the identity of Bengal.

They said preparations at the administrative level are also moving simultaneously.

It is being suggested that the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) is likely to approach the Governor on May 6 with a gazette notification formalising the post-election procedural steps.

Who will become the new Chief Minister of Bengal?

Following the BJP's historic victory, the biggest question remains that who will be the next Chief Minister of West Bengal. Several prominent figures are reportedly in the list, but the final decision will be based on the consensus of the central leadership.

According to media reports, four names are being discussed most frequently within the BJP: Suvendu Adhikari, who defeated Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur, Samik Bhattacharya, Utpal Maharaj, and Swapan Dasgupta.

There has been no official announcement from the BJP regarding the Chief Ministerial candidate yet, nor has it put forward a CM candidate, so suspense remains high on this issue.

Many people are speculating on Suvendu Adhikari, a powerful BJP leader who defeated Mamata Banerjee in her stronghold.
